In fact, recently a doctor was raped and brutally murdered in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On August 20, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud had reprimanded the West Bengal government on the Kolkata case and expressed concern over the safety of women doctors in hospitals. The Supreme Court had said that the Kolkata case reminded Aruna Shanbaug of the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai on 27 November 1973. The only difference between the two incidents is that the victim died in Kolkata. At the same time, Aruna Shanbaug, who became a victim of brutality in Mumbai, remained a living corpse for 42 years.
